Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process®

A practice for intentional feedback.

Choreographer Liz Lerman developed Critical Response Process® in the early 1990s. Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process® is a registered trademark and property of Liz Lerman LLC.

Critical Response Process (CRP) is a widely used method for nurturing the development of artistic, creative, and other work through a facilitated exchange between makers and responders. I am a Certified CRP Practitioner, and this page shares my experience with CRP and how we might work together.

My Experience with CRP

I first encountered Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process® in 2017 while working with Dance Exchange—the company Liz Lerman founded in 1976—and I have loved it ever since. In 2025 I completed in-depth training through the CRP Practitioner Certification Program and became a Certified CRP Practitioner.

For my certification project, Talk in Draft, I centered CRP as a trauma-informed pedagogy, using the Process to make in-progress work feel like a shared exploration rather than an evaluation.

Working Together

As a Certified CRP Practitioner, I am qualified to:

  • Guide people in CRP variations, explorations of values, and skill-building exercises
  • Assist institutions in incorporating CRP into their processes and cultures
  • Teach the essentials of CRP facilitation
  • Lead or co-lead introductory workshops in CRP
